German security company hensec secure solutions has introduced Portags, an integrated airspace and GNSS monitoring platform built specifically for ports, combining drone detection and satellite navigation interference monitoring in a single operational view.
The launch comes as Baltic Sea nations move to tighten security cooperation against hybrid threats. At the Baltic Sea Security Summit in Flensburg in late August, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Sweden, and Norway agreed to intensify information sharing and establish a joint task force targeting drone incursions, sabotage, and other hybrid attacks. Ports, as hubs for logistics, energy supply, industry, and data connections, are among the most exposed pieces of critical infrastructure in that threat picture.
Portags, short for Port Airspace and GNSS Security, is designed to fuse data from multiple sensor types rather than treat drone detection and GNSS monitoring as separate problems. The system watches the airspace above a port for potential airborne objects while simultaneously checking whether satellite navigation signals in the area are reliable or under attack, giving security teams a way to detect, assess, and document both drone activity and GNSS interference from one interface. “Shared situational awareness isn’t achieved simply by installing more and more individual sensors. What matters is bringing their data together, correlating it and presenting it in a way that allows security teams to quickly understand what is actually happening,” said Kevin Heneka, managing director of hensec secure solutions.
Sensor Fusion Behind the Common Operating Picture
Portags draws on several detection technologies at once. RF sensors monitor relevant frequency ranges to pick up active drone communication and control signals, including Remote ID data, control and telemetry links, and movement information. Passive radar fills in coverage for non-transmitting or non-cooperative airborne objects that RF sensors alone would miss.
