Positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) has become foundational infrastructure.
It supports transportation, communications, energy, financial networks, defense systems, autonomous platforms and a growing range of space applications. Keysight cites estimates that as much as 10% of European GDP relies on PNT services, while the economic impact of a one-day GPS outage in the United States has been estimated at $1.6 billion.
At the same time, the architecture delivering position and time is becoming considerably more complex.
GNSS remains at its center, but increasingly, it is only one element of the solution. New low Earth orbit (LEO)-based PNT services are moving toward deployment. Governments are investing in sovereign and regional capabilities. Receiver manufacturers are adding frequencies and constellations. Autonomous systems are combining satellite navigation with inertial sensors, cameras, LiDAR, radar and other sources.
And as dependence on PNT grows, the threat environment is evolving with it.

1. Resilience is moving to the architecture.
The report identifies protecting, toughening and augmenting PNT as one of the dominant market trends of 2026.
Rather than relying on one source, more systems are combining GNSS with complementary and alternative PNT, inertial sensors, terrestrial signals, authentication, advanced antennas and other technologies. Keysight sees that layered approach as increasingly important as PNT becomes embedded in critical and safety-related applications.
2. LEO PNT is moving from concept to deployment.
Commercial and government investment in LEO PNT has accelerated since 2023.
