Satellite Industry Association Statement Commending FCC Satellite Spectrum Abundance Decision The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) releases the following statement after Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr announced that the Commission will vote later this month on unlocking more than 1,000 MHz of spectrum in the 12 GHz and 42 GHz bands for a range of connectivity services, including even faster satellite broadband. “SIA applauds FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and the Commission for continuing to recognize the strategic importance of the commercial satellite industry and the essential services it provides,” said Tom Stroup, president of the Satellite Industry Association. “Expanding access to spectrum for satellite services is critical to strengthening U.S. innovation, competitiveness, and leadership in the growing global space economy.” Mr. Stroup added, “SIA commends the FCC for moving quickly from the release of its NPRM last year to voting to make more than 1,000 MHz of spectrum available for satellite broadband, mobility connectivity, and satellite network operations.
